Dun Laoghaire Lexicon Library
Dorchester Red Stock brick of Dún Laoghaire’s Lexicon Library

The library’s southern elevation along Haigh Terrace is clad in Dorchester Red Stock brick, chosen to echo the red brick of Dún Laoghaire’s Victorian high‑street terraces. This red brick is set in stone bands, delivering a disciplined pattern of red masonry punctuated by stone coursing, which tempers scale and provides a visual connection to adjacent heritage buildings. Its texture, colour warmth and masonry hand reinforce the public‑facing intimacy of the street‑side rooms and workshops, even as the rest of the library is expressed in granite, glazing, and concrete. The Dorchester Red Stock brick does more than clad; it helps articulate transitions, frame openings, and embed the building within its urban and historic fabric.
