We specified Casa Lena bricks by Wienerberger for their tumbled, soft-mud edges and pale buff base which was accentuated beautifully with an ivory mortar. These bricks provide texture and warmth that contrast with the precise exposed concrete elements, while helping the building sit harmoniously with the Georgian terraces and granite architecture of York Street.
Celebrated for its architectural quality and civic contribution, the project was awarded the RIAI Public Choice Award 2018. Strong in durability and sensitive in materiality, the brickwork here underscores both the aesthetic and technical demands of medical education infrastructure, delivering an inviting yet rigorous environment for students and staff alike.
In 2025, they completed the Annexe addition directly on St Stephen’s Green, once again working with Bennett Construction. The new section expands the original RCSI campus, and Casa Lena was chosen for the project following its successful use in Phase 1.
