The choice of Staffordshire Smooth Blue brick by Wienerberger helps define a confident, contemporary civic building rooted in its suburban setting.

Designed by Henchion Reuter Architects, the new library replaces a 1970s structure, offering a light-filled, transparent public space that’s anchored by a robust, Staffordshire blue brick envelope. The brick’s deep colour and smooth finish provide a clear architectural counterpoint to the building’s glazed frontage, expressing both permanence and openness.

Across load-bearing and non-load-bearing elements, the precise brickwork detailing—particularly around window reveals and parapets—elevates the building’s geometric form, reflecting a careful balance between civic dignity and accessibility. The material selection also supports the building’s ambition to be welcoming, sustainable, and low-maintenance.

Recognised with a 2022 RIAI Award for Public Building, Castletymon Library demonstrates how Smooth Blue brick can deliver both aesthetic sharpness and lasting public value.
