Four Views
Four Views is a striking upside-down house in Winchester, designed by AR Design Studio to blend bold contemporary form with natural tranquility.

Location:
Winchester, Hampshire, UK

The house is organised around four interlocking boxes, with a central Zen garden featuring a single olive tree, creating a serene focal point. Its design emphasises the principles of nature, natural light, and natural air: large windows, roof lights, and sliding panels allow sunlight to fill the interior and provide cross-ventilation, while the courtyard offers private, reflective space. Morvan black brick by Vandersanden and cedar cladding give the home a natural, calming palette, with sustainable materials enhancing both aesthetic and environmental quality. The layout frames three sweeping views of the South Downs, connecting the family to the landscape while offering inward spaces for contemplation. Built as a personal and healing project for the owners, “Four Views” was recognised with the 2014 Build It Award for Best Masonry Home, reflecting its architectural and emotional significance.
