Established in 1790 in Ripley, Derbyshire, Butterley Brick Company has a rich heritage in brick manufacturing. Over the years, it evolved from a small-scale operation into one of England's major producers. In 1968, the company was acquired by the Wiles Group, later known as Hanson plc. In 2015, Forterra acquired Hanson Brick, including the Butterley brand, integrating it into its extensive portfolio of building products.
